Day 5: Bago, Myanmar

30 Jul 2014

I slept all the way to Yangon and I arrived at 5am with no plans and a whole 12hours to waste because my flight to Phuket would be later that afternoon. The American guy decided to go directly to the airport and hang out there for 12hours. I stood outside the terminal while the still dark sky was pouring heavily on earth. ā€œ12Hours? What should I do?ā€ I asked myself.

I waited for the sky to brighten then as soon as it was better, I started walking around and asking the drivers there for my options if I wanted to go to Bago, another ancient Kingdom. I bargained with them and finally got an affordable 40K kyats for 8hours of touring to and around Bago and back to Yangon. It was about 1.5 to 2 hrs away from Yangon.

In Bago, there’s more temples, pagodas and Buddhas. One have to pay 10K kyats to enter the archeological zone. Overkilling tourism (for foreigners) again.

After about 5hrs of roaming around the Archeological zone, they brought me to the airport and there, I saw the America Guy again and we had more time to chat about life while waiting for our flight. I didn’t manage to get contact details though, too bad.

My itinerary was: Yangon-Bangkok-Phuket that night.
